Fuel Conservation and Lower Gas Prices dominate American web searches
Posted by: Honda-Prices - Yesterday 10:45 PM - No Replies

Internet search behavior opens a window into the consumer psyche, displaying reactions to change, shifting trends in lifestyle patterns and offering a never-before look into the vehicle selecting decisions of online car buyers. Hit wise, an online measurement organization, revealed that only two out of the top 10 search terms on automotive Web sites, were for domestic auto companies.

Honda topped the list of search terms, garnering 2.09% of the search term volume, followed by Toyota with 1.79% and Nissan at 1.23%. Harley-Davidson and Honda motorcycles were at fourth and fifth position, with Ford coming in at sixth. For decades, fuel-efficiency and environmental issues have been well established guiding principles at Honda Motor Company. Therefore it comes as no surprise that online searches acknowledge the relationship between fuel economy and Honda in their searches.

The Hitwise study used a sample of 10 million U.S. Internet users to determine percentage rankings for online traffic to a particular domain.

Honda to build new manufacturing plant at Indiana
Posted by: Honda-Prices - 08-19-2008 09:35 PM - No Replies

Honda announced plans to construct its new $550 million automobile plant in Decatur County, near Greensburg in Indiana. The plant will manufacture fuel efficient 4-cylinder vehicles in fall 2008, and will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles.

Honda picked Indiana as the location for its new plant, as it had the necessary infrastructure to support industry, and was centrally located in the Midwest, making it convenient for both suppliers and customers from across the country.

The Indiana auto plant will be Honda’s seventh in North America. The HMIN plant will boost Honda’s production capacity from 1.4 million units to more than 1.6 million units in North America. Manufacturing activities at the Indiana plant will include stamping, welding, painting, plastic injection molding and assembly operations. Honda wishes to ensure minimal environmental impact of the 1,700 acre plant, with energy and emission reduction methods and ISO 14001 international environmental management certification.

Honda Racing Corporation: Built on Race-winning Product Line
Posted by: Honda-Prices - 08-18-2008 09:28 PM - No Replies

In the 1940’s, Honda first invented a cheap mode of transport for the Japanese population, by attaching an engine to a bicycle, setting in motion the humble beginnings of a need for new technology. Years later in the 1970s, the Racing Service Center (RSC) evolved as a separate company to oversee motorcycle racing for Honda. The RSC was later incorporated as HRC Honda Racing Corporation in 1982.

HRC and Honda R&D conduct research into the development of technologically refined, advanced machines with cutting edge qualities. HRC also supports motorcycle sports with a wide spectrum of activities.

In 1959 Honda’s entered 5 motorcycles in the Isle of Man TT, the most famous international circuit of the time. In 1961, they won their first Grand Prix race in both 125cc and 250cc segments. By then, Honda had developed a penchant for super-high revving, specialized engines such as a 5 cylinder 125cc motorbike with an output of 22,000 RPM. Honda is a global empire today, legendary for its attention to detail, which shows in the performance and reliability of Honda motorcycles during a race. The name Honda to race fans today is synonymous with winning.

Honda is planning to launch a new affordable hybrid
Posted by: Honda-Prices - 08-14-2008 10:02 PM - No Replies

Honda has been a leader in hybrid development ever since the launch of its first hybrid Insight model back in 1999. The company now plans to launch a new small hybrid, as an early 2009 model. The five-door, five-passenger vehicle will retail at a cost less than Honda’s Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius, which is currently the world’s best selling hybrid. Dick Colliver, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., said that the company’s goal for the new hybrid model was to make it affordable for a new generation of car buyers.

The Honda hybrid vehicle will be significantly reduced in weight and will use Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) components to cut down on costs. Honda's Suzuka factory in Japan will produce the new hybrid vehicle along with the Civic hybrid.

Honda is expecting sales of the new hybrid vehicle to surpass 100,000 units per annum in North America and 200,000 units worldwide.

GM and Honda divided over alternate energy research
Posted by: Honda-Prices - 08-13-2008 09:09 PM - No Replies

Beth Lowery, Vice President of Environment, Energy and Safety policy for General Motors, and John German, Manager of Environmental and Energy analysis for American Honda Motor Co., aired differing viewpoints about alternative energy technologies, at an Automotive Conference in Traverse City.

While a GM executive lauded the company’s efforts in pursuing vehicles for new energy segments, Honda cautioned that development efforts were expensive and needed to be limited to a few rapidly emerging technologies. Vehicle segments based on new energy solutions include ethanol-powered vehicles and electric cars. The Automotive Conference comes at a time when most automakers are switching production from trucks and SUVs to smaller fuel-efficient models and alternate energy sources.

Honda and GM have posted disparate profitability figures. Honda reported an 8.1 percent increase in its profits of $1.67 billion for the first fiscal quarter. Honda recorded profits even as sales growth in fresh markets absorbed the effects of a stronger yen and increasing material costs. GM lost $3.3 billion in the first quarter and $15.5 billion in the second quarter, was on the verge of shutting down four North American assembly plants, cutting back on jobs, cashing in its assets and forgoing its dividend to raise cash.
